Here is an update from the Old Neighbourhood team
Hi lovely supporters of the Old Neighbourhood,
A quick update here on our efforts to revive Chalford Hill’s one and only pub, as we approach Easter bank hols and a much-missed opportunity to kick back with a pint in the spring sunshine of our village local…
- Our Pub Committee is currently working its socks off on the Business Case for the Old Neighbourhood. This’ll form a key part of our Community Share Offer. Once we’ve got that in play, we can start in earnest with the process of community fundraising.
- Watch this space for more info on how we get on, and a huge thanks to our brilliant Committee for all their time, effort and due diligence. It’s no mean feat!
- Meanwhile, you might also have spotted that the Old Neighbourhood car park has been fenced off. It’s widely known that there is asbestos under the car park and that it was previously capped off. This fencing activity doesn’t change our aim with regards to the community pub project at all. But if you have any concerns about what’s going on in the car park right now, please do contact Chalford Parish Council.
- We also wanted to say a huge thanks for sharing all your brilliant stories and experiences of The Old Neighbourhood pub a few months ago. Our inbox was filled with amazing photos and anecdotes from locals through the ages. It’s been lovely to see how well-loved the pub is, and this kind of community spirit is also vital in making our Business Case.
- Finally, we’ve spotted two inspiring stories recently that are giving us hope with our own mission to bring back the Old Neighbourhood and turn it into a community-run venture. The first is the community effort behind The Loddiswell Inn in Devon, which recently featured on a BBC episode of Countryfile. And the second is this Positive News article on how people all over the UK are coming together to save their local pubs. Well worth a read/watch. And it just goes to show, we’re far from alone in fighting the good fight to preserve our local history and community… We can do this!
Thanks so much for all your patience and fantastic support, and don’t forget you can follow along with all our latest news on The Old Neighbourhood Facebook page.
Who knows, with a bit of luck, this time next year we could be celebrating Easter together in the Old Neighbourhood garden 🍻 kids running about, and neighbours catching up – just like it has been for decades…
All the best,
The Old Neighbourhood community team
