CHALFORD PARISH COUNCIL are delighted to add another bus shelter transformation to the Parish, with a new mural created by art students at Thomas Keble School.
The shelter, which is located on the A419, opposite Lavender Bakehouse, was in desperate need of brightening up. The Parish Council are very keen to work with and support local organisations and were thrilled to connect with one of their local schools.
Year 8 students from Thomas Keble School volunteered to create something visually engaging as part of their lessons this year, with the works of Friedensreich Hundertwasser featuring on their syllabus.
The work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser is one of the most important contributions in the art history of post-war modernism. His commitment to a more human architecture in harmony with nature and his visionary ecological commitment developed from his belief in the power of nature and individual creativity. At the center of his ecological activities were tree planting and greening campaigns, the restoration of natural cycles, the protection of water and the fight for a waste-free society.
By using this artist as the inspiration for the new bus shelter, it highlights the symmetry of his values with those held in our beautiful Chalford Parish.
The artwork, which follows Hundertwasser’s style of art and lettering, features key elements of the Chalford area, including the Church spire, the Round House surrounded by water, the rare blue butterflies which can be spotted around the parish banks and the trees on Dark Lane .
‘Painting this bus stop mural was a fun opportunity to improve our art skills while using Hundertwasser’s style to inspire us to celebrate the locality of Chalford.
It was also a good chance to represent our school. We like the way it will benefit the community and be there for a long time, enjoyed by many people.
-Thanks to Chalford Parish Council for the opportunity’
Many thanks to the reliable and dedicated team of artists: Teasel, Miriam, Luma, Florrie, Poppy, Decca, Rebecca, Frieda and Jade.
